Data year: 2026

Tax system
None There is no personal income tax: the IRD states that tax on individuals was abolished in 1980. Corporate income tax applies at 33% on the assessable income of resident companies (worldwide income under the 2021 amendments) and of non-residents with a permanent establishment in the federation. Value added tax is charged at a standard rate of 17% on taxable supplies and imports. Unincorporated businesses carrying on trade locally may be subject to a separate unincorporated business tax (4% on qualifying local turnover), distinct from corporate income tax.

Residency rules
Tax residency for companies follows place of incorporation, central management and control, or registration of an external company. For individuals, physical presence of 183 days in a year is widely cited for tax-residence purposes, but with no personal income tax the main practical effects are social security, property transfer tax, stamp duties, and withholding on federation-source payments to non-residents. Citizenship by investment does not by itself establish tax residence.

Filing information

Fiscal year
01-01 – 12-31
Companies must file a corporate income tax return within three and a half months after their fiscal year end (for example, 15 April for a 31 December year-end) and pay quarterly instalments on 15 March, June, September and December. Withholding tax on payments to non-residents is remitted quarterly. VAT-registered businesses file VAT returns per the VAT Act schedule. There is no personal income tax return.
