Notes

Book V of Executive Order No. 226 is the statute. The Board of Investments' June 2026 information sheet still requires at least USD 75,000 and charges a filing fee of USD 300 per person, principal and each dependent. The March 2026 cost-of-doing-business table lists the same probationary fee and a separate PHP 2,000 endorsement for the indefinite visa. The 2023 BOI FAQ also states the six-month probation, the spouse and unmarried children under 21, and the USD 300 fee per person. The application can be filed with a Philippine embassy or consulate, or with the Board of Investments if the applicant is already in the Philippines. The qualifying investment is share ownership, not the time deposit itself. The deposit has to be converted within 180 days of the probationary visa. Dropping below the required investment can end the visa. The shares are the holder's property, so the amount is marked returnable. There is no fixed holding period beyond the life of the visa. The Department of Foreign Affairs can exclude nationals of some countries. No public list was on the 2026 sheet, so the restriction stays open. A police clearance and a medical certificate are required. The 2026 sheet does not grant a work permit. Owning the shares is the basis of the visa. Employment in the company was not confirmed. A resident alien is taxed on Philippine-source income. The visa does not grant citizenship, and the holder does not give up their existing citizenship. A foreigner may buy a condominium, not land.
