Panama's education system is divided into four stages: preschool (ages 4–5), primary school (ages 6–12), pre-media (ages 12–15), and secondary school (ages 15–18). The school year runs from early March to mid-December, split into three trimesters, with a summer break in January and February.
International schools in Panama offer American, British, and IB curricula, as well as bilingual English/Spanish programs, with most located in Panama City. These schools generally provide higher academic standards than the public school system.
