Albania has no permit titled "digital nomad visa". Remote workers use the unique residence permit for digital mobile workers under Article 68 of Law No. 79/2021 "On Foreigners". The first permit is up to one year and requires a contract to work, with IT tools and without a fixed workplace, for an employer or client outside Albania. A one-year residence permit may be renewed no more than five times (Article 33(4)(a)), and permanent residence is a separate status after five consecutive lawful years. Since Council of Ministers Decision No. 240 of 1 April 2026, proof of means is an Albanian bank deposit of at least 300,000 lek per person for one calendar year and/or monthly income at least equal to the national minimum wage, 50,000 lek since 1 January 2026. The decision lists both and does not say that one replaces the other. The published service fee is 4,500 lek the first time and 2,250 lek on renewal. For the first 12 months, Law No. 36/2023 provides that these workers are not Albanian tax residents. Albania is not in the EU or Schengen. EU citizens can register under Article 33/1 and do not need this permit to stay longer than three months.
