Notes
The Department of Immigration and Emigration heads this programme "Extension only for the existing visa holders." The visa lasts two years and can be renewed. The fee is USD 200 a year for the holder, the spouse, and dependent children over 16. Applications are accepted only at the department in Colombo. Paid and unpaid employment is prohibited. Medical insurance valid in Sri Lanka is required, and a Sri Lankan police clearance is required at renewal. Holders must send a half-year bank statement for the fixed deposit and the savings account. The deposit, remittance and fee are published in US dollars, so the dollar amounts shown are the official figures. The annual income figure is twelve times the monthly remittance. From 1 April 2025 a tax resident's foreign-source income that arrives in foreign currency through a bank is taxed at a maximum of 15%. This visa is not the Investor Category Residence Visa, so the 2026 rule that keeps those holders non-resident does not apply. A condominium parcel can be bought if the full price is paid upfront by an inward remittance. Freehold land generally cannot.
