Residence permit for a foreigner who will live in Curaçao on interest or other independent means. The Admission Office asks for a bank declaration of sufficient means for the applicant and family. It does not publish a single-person income floor. The first-year fee is XCG 635. A renewal costs XCG 615 and can be filed from four months before expiry. Since 1 April 2026 a temporary permit may be requested for up to three years if each year’s fees are paid in advance.
This is the “rentenier” purpose on the Admission Office rentier/retired page, not the retired purpose and not the tax penshonado. The retired purpose is a separate record. Dutch nationals are admitted by right under the Landsverordening toelating en uitzetting and do not use this permit. The only published means figures on that page are family norms, in a footnote shared with other purposes. For a foreigner’s spouse the applicant must show at least XCG 3,000 gross per month. For a spouse who is a Dutch citizen the figure is XCG 1,500 gross per month. Children are extra: XCG 250 a month under 6, XCG 350 from 6 through 11, and XCG 500 from 12. If the application is only for children, the first child takes the spouse’s place in the norm. Those figures are not stored as the principal’s income floor, because the page never states a solo amount. `application_fee_usd` is XCG 635 at the legal peg of USD 1 = XCG 1.79, rounded to the nearest dollar on 2026-10-09 (about USD 355). Renewal is XCG 615 (about USD 344) and is not the field above. Fees are paid at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank before filing. The payment reference is the applicant’s full name and date of birth. Documents for a first filing: payment proof, signed form, passport, birth certificate not older than one year (legalised or apostilled unless the country of birth is in the EU), certificate of good conduct not older than three months, and the bank declaration. The checklist does not include a medical exam or a health-insurance policy. The first decision is awaited abroad. The office has four months. Filing is by scanned PDF; if the purpose is not on the portal, email [email protected]. The card is collected by appointment. From 1 January 2019 a temporary permit was in principle one year. The 1 April 2026 policy replaced that rule: any purpose except short stay, remote work, and a tourist extension may be requested for up to three years, with fees prepaid per year. Dependents follow the principal’s duration. An indefinite permit is available after ten years of uninterrupted lawful residence. Someone who qualifies for the tax penshonado (age, housing, and no local work) has a separate indefinite-residence ground; that status is not automatic for a rentier. Residents pay inkomstenbelasting on worldwide income. Naturalisation is Dutch nationality after five years of admission and main residence, the naturalisatietoets in Dutch and Papiamentu, and in principle loss of the other nationality. No physical-presence day count is published for this permit. Curaçao residence is not Schengen access.
Curacao also offers a digital nomad visa for remote workers
