Residence permit for a foreigner who will retire in Curaçao. The Admission Office asks for a bank declaration of sufficient means and, if the applicant invokes the penshonado, a statement from a Curaçao accountant or audit firm. The immigration page does not set a pension amount or a minimum age. The first-year fee is XCG 635 and renewal is XCG 615. Since 1 April 2026 the permit may be requested for up to three years if each year’s fees are paid in advance. Qualifying for the tax penshonado is itself a ground for an indefinite permit.

Notes

The retired purpose shares a page, a fee, and a document list with the rentier purpose. It is a separate record because the applicant can invoke the penshonado and because the 1 April 2026 admission policy grants an indefinite permit to a person who qualifies for that tax regime (Landsverordening op de inkomstenbelasting, articles 23B through 23E). The penshonado is not automatic. Until it is granted, resident tax is ordinary worldwide inkomstenbelasting, which is why `tax_regime` stays worldwide and `years_to_pr` stays 10. Belastingdienst conditions for the penshonado, still printed in ANG (at par with XCG): age 50 or older; 60 consecutive months living outside Curaçao; a request to the inspector within two months of registration in the population register; within 18 months, a home for own use worth at least ANG 450,000 that is not rented out, or a protected monument of that value which may be rented for at most four months in each 12-month period. The applicant and spouse may not hold local employment, a local independent profession, or other local work. A person who owns at least 40 percent of a local taxable company, or who is paid as a supervisory director, can still qualify, but that local income is taxed at the ordinary rate. Foreign income can then be taxed at 10 percent of the actual amount. The alternative is to declare a fixed foreign income of ANG 500,000 and pay the ordinary rates on that amount, with no relief under the Belastingregeling Nederland Curaçao. The switch from the 10 percent option to the fixed amount is allowed only after three years. The right falls away for a year of disqualifying local work, and it ends for good after two such years, two years of late or incomplete returns, or more than six months without the qualifying home. Penshonado holders still owe BVZ and AVBZ premiums and, depending on age, AOV/AWW. People who settled before 1 January 1998 and filed in time can remain on the old 5 percent regime. Those rates are not stored on the permit, because the election is separate and the tax office still labels the thresholds ANG. Immigration checklist matches the rentier: payment, form, passport, birth certificate, good conduct, bank declaration, plus the accountant’s statement when the penshonado is invoked. Family means norms on the same page: XCG 3,000 gross per month for a foreign spouse, XCG 1,500 if the spouse is a Dutch citizen, and per child XCG 250 / 350 / 500 by age. No solo pension floor is published, so `pension_monthly_usd` is empty. No health-insurance document and no medical exam are on the list. First decision awaited abroad; four months; scanned PDF or [email protected]. Local work is incompatible with the penshonado. The residence checklist itself is not a work permit, so the work fields are false. Naturalisation is Dutch nationality after five years of admission and main residence, with the naturalisatietoets in Dutch and Papiamentu and the usual renunciation rule. No presence day-count is published. Curaçao residence is not Schengen access.
