Temporary residence for a foreigner who will stay in Mexico for more than 180 days and no more than four years and can prove economic solvency. The July 2025 visa guidelines require either employment or pension income, free of tax, greater than 680 days of the UMA in each of the last six months, or an average monthly balance equal to 11,460 days of the UMA over the last twelve months. At the 2026 daily UMA of MXN 117.31, those floors are MXN 79,770.80 a month and MXN 1,344,372.60. After four years of temporary residence the holder can request permanent residence.

The income test must be greater than 680 days of the UMA, not equal to it. The savings figure is an average month-end balance over twelve months, not a one-time deposit. The annual amount is twelve times the monthly floor; consulates score each month. Dollar figures use the Banxico FIX of MXN 18.1128 per USD determined on 8 October 2026. Consulates publish their own conversions. San Diego's 2026 sheet asks for USD 4,510 a month or an average balance of USD 75,950. The consular visa fee is USD 56 under article 22 of the Federal Duties Law, charged per applicant. Within 30 calendar days of entry the holder exchanges the visa at the National Migration Institute. The institute's 2026 sheet prices the temporary resident card at MXN 11,141 for one year, MXN 16,693 for two years, MXN 21,143 for three years and MXN 25,058 for four years. The condition cannot exceed four years. The card term is not fixed at one year, so no single renewal length is stored. A spouse or partner, a minor child, or a parent can be included. Only one spouse or partner. For each family member the sponsor shows a further 220 days of UMA: income greater than MXN 25,808.20 a month, or an average balance of that amount, about USD 1,425. Paid work in Mexico needs a separate permit tied to a job offer. The economic-solvency visa does not include that permit. Foreign-paid remote work is what consulates accept as employment income. The same temporary-resident visa can also be granted for Mexican real estate worth more than 91,710 days of UMA, or for an investment above 45,850 days of UMA. Those grounds are not this income test. An institute change-of-status sheet still prints older multiples. Naturalization is a separate application, generally after five years of residence, with a Spanish exam and an express renunciation of the other nationality.
