Ten-year occupation permit for a non-citizen who puts at least USD 100,000 into a Mauritian company. The permit combines residence with the right to carry on the business. A filing fee of USD 50 is charged up front, and the permit fee after approval is USD 1,000.
| Type | Min amount | USD equivalent | Holding | Returnable | Required |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Company capital | USD 100,000 | $100,000 | — | Yes | Required |
The USD 100,000 must be shown on a bank statement from the country of origin or residence, then transferred into the company account within 60 days. Each shareholder who is also a director needs a separate permit, and the USD 100,000 test applies to each of them. The innovative-startup route of the same occupation permit has no capital floor and is a separate record. From the third year of registration the company needs annual turnover of at least MUR 5 million. Renewal from the fifth year needs MUR 8 million. A 20-year permanent residence permit is available after five years as an investor, with annual turnover of at least MUR 15 million for those five years, or MUR 75 million in total. The filing fee is USD 50 from 1 December 2025. The permit fee is USD 1,000. Each dependent permit is USD 400. Dependents are a spouse, including an opposite-sex common-law partner, parents, and unmarried children, stepchildren or adopted children not over 24. They cannot work unless they obtain their own permit. The spouse may be granted an occupation permit. The Immigration Act requires a decision within five working days of a complete application, and an undecided complete file is deemed granted. In practice the Economic Development Board first issues an approval in principle, valid 90 days for a new file and 30 days for a renewal, and the medical examination is done in Mauritius. There is no published minimum stay. A resident is taxed on Mauritius-source income and on foreign income remitted to Mauritius. From 1 July 2026 the bands are 0 percent on the first MUR 500,000, 10 percent on the next MUR 500,000, 20 percent on the next MUR 11 million, and 35 percent above that. Ordinary naturalisation is discretionary: 12 continuous months immediately before the application, plus five years in total during the seven years before that, with English or another language current in Mauritius. That is stored as six years. A Commonwealth citizen can be registered after five continuous years. The Minister may accept two years where the person has invested at least USD 500,000. The applicant is not required to give up another citizenship.
