Uganda's National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) began registering foreign nationals on June 10, 2026, under the Registration of Persons Act. The requirement applies to all foreign nationals lawfully resident in Uganda, excluding those visiting for 90 days or fewer.

US Embassies in South Sudan, DRC, and Uganda Suspend Visa Services Due to Ebola Outbreak
Effective May 18, 2026, the US embassies in Juba, Kinshasa, and Kampala have temporarily suspended all visa services, including immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applications, citing an ongoing Ebola outbreak. Both tourist and business visa processing are affected at all three locations.
