Applicants of Armenian origin may apply for Armenian citizenship without the ordinary residence or Armenian-language requirements. They must submit evidence of Armenian origin and take the citizenship oath. Since 1 January 2026, applications and appointments for submitting original documents are handled exclusively through the mcs-citizenship.am electronic system. The official review period is 90 working days. Armenia permits dual citizenship; dual citizens have Armenian rights and obligations and must report acquisition of another citizenship within one month.

Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia (1995, as amended through 2023), Article 13

Proof of Armenian origin can include a baptism certificate, a document from a competent foreign authority, or an identity or birth record of a parent, grandparent, or sibling showing Armenian origin. Foreign-language documents require Armenian translation and apostille or consular legalization. The official state duty for citizenship acquisition is AMD 50,000; the USD application fee is an approximate conversion. The MFA lists a USD 166 consular fee for issuing a passport to a person granted citizenship abroad. Passport ranking and access figures follow the Henley Passport Index (October 2026): rank 74, score 64. Armenian nationals are eligible for U.S. E-2 treaty investor visas.
