Notes

Statutory long stay visitor permit under section 13A of the Immigration Act, added by the Immigration (Amendment) Act 2021. Citizens and permanent residents of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and EU member states. Minimum income is USD 75,000 a year alone, or a flat USD 100,000 when applying with dependents, not a sum per person. The stay cannot exceed six months in any calendar year, and the permit is not extended. Holders and their dependents may not take employment in Belize. A dependent is a spouse, an unmarried child, stepchild or adopted child under 18, or a person certified by a court. Travel insurance must include at least USD 50,000 of health coverage. The immigration portal's fee table is 500 per adult and 200 per child and its pages label those amounts in US dollars. The Belize Tourism Board page, updated 6 February 2026, still quotes BZ$500 per adult and BZ$200 per child under 18, payable at the airport. Income tax is charged on income accruing in or derived from Belize. Employment exercised in Belize is deemed derived from Belize, while a 2024 amendment says an employed person whose income is derived outside Belize is not liable.
