India has no digital nomad visa. This record is the e-Business Visa (e-B1 V). It runs for one year (365 days) from the grant of the electronic travel authorisation, with multiple entries. Continuous stay on each visit must not exceed 180 days. The e-Visa portal says the visa is non-extendable and non-convertible, and that an e-Visa is not allowed for employment. A regular visa is required for employment. The applicant uploads a business card and the Indian firm's details. An invitation letter from the Indian company can stand in for the card. There is no income threshold. The fee depends on nationality. On the schedule dated 15 April 2026 it is USD 120 for most listed countries, USD 140 for the United States, USD 242 for the United Kingdom, USD 215 for Australia, USD 25 for Japan and USD 415 for the United Arab Emirates. Some countries pay nothing. A bank charge of up to 3 percent is added and is not included in the stored fee. Apply online at least 4 days, and no more than 120 days, before arrival. The passport needs six months of validity and two blank pages. A return or onward ticket and enough money for the stay are required. No amount is set. Each person, including a child, needs a separate passport and application. Entry is only through the designated airports and seaports listed on the portal. The e-Arrival card, filed within 72 hours before arrival, is arrival information and not a visa. The one-year and five-year e-Tourist visas are separate. The portal limits stay on those visas to 180 days in a calendar year. A regular business visa from an Indian mission is also separate. The mission visa table still lists a business visa for five years, and that visa can be extended in India. Neither product is a remote-work permit, and neither is included in the durations above. The same e-Visa page says someone who intends to stay more than 180 days must register with the FRRO within two weeks after those 180 days. A 1 June 2026 amendment moved one 180-day registration deadline to before the 180 days expire, and limited that registration to emergent circumstances. The e-Visa page still states the older timing. There is no special tax regime. From 1 April 2026 an individual is resident at 182 days in the tax year, or at 60 days in that year plus 365 days in the previous four years. A resident is taxed on income arising outside India. Someone who is not ordinarily resident is taxed on foreign income only when it comes from a business controlled in India or a profession set up in India. A non-resident is not. Rates are slabs, not one percentage. Eligible passports are the list on the e-Visa portal. Pakistani passport holders, people of Pakistani origin, and diplomatic or official passport holders are not eligible.
