The one-year visitor card is renewable and is not a multi-year card. A stay under one year can start on a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit, validated online after arrival. The first card is €350 (€300 tax plus a €50 stamp), about $392. Renewal is €250. A late filing adds €180. France-Visas states a separate €99 long-stay visa fee, about $111. Family reunification of a spouse and minor children is a different procedure, available after 18 months. Five years of legal stay can lead to the 10-year EU long-term resident card. Naturalisation is generally five years and is discretionary.
