Essentials

City
Civitanova Marche, in the province of Macerata, Marche, on the Adriatic about 40 km southeast of Ancona. The comune joins the port (Porto) with the hill town of Civitanova Alta. Patron saint San Marone, 18 August. 1 2
Population
41,929 residents on 1 January 2026 (ISTAT, via Tuttitalia). That is the comune, and it is the most populous comune in the province of Macerata. The English Wikipedia figure of 42,353 is the 2018 count. 2 1
Internet Speed
Go Working (Via Silvio Pellico 4; the site spells the street Sivlio) advertises real fibre to the building, with a guaranteed minimum bandwidth it does not publish in megabits. Civitainnova, Via Ugo Bassi 1/B, publishes Wi-Fi up to 100 Mbps. 13 11
Currency & Banking
Euro (EUR). The European Central Bank reference on 19 October 2026 is 1 euro = 1.1225 US dollars, or 0.8909 euro per US dollar. Cards are widely accepted; keep cash for smaller shops and the Saturday market. 4 3 6
Tap Water
Tap water in Italy is safe to drink. A fountain signed non potabile is not for drinking. Southern supplies can taste odd; Civitanova is on the central Adriatic, not in that band. No local drinking-water ban was found. 3
Power
230 V, 50 Hz. Plugs are Type C (Europlug), Type F (Schuko) and Type L (Italian three-pin). 3
SIM Card
TIM, Vodafone, Wind Tre and iliad. Buy a prepaid SIM with a passport; the shop usually makes a codice fiscale from it. iliad activation is 9.99 euro. GIGA 150 is 7.99 euro a month for 150 GB. TOP 230 is 9.99 euro a month for 230 GB plus 18 GB in the EU. The Civitanova cost file uses TOP 230 as the monthly plan and GIGA 150 plus activation as a tourist SIM. 3 5
Accommodation
The town splits into Porto, on the sea, and Civitanova Alta on the hill at about 155 m. Summer beds cluster on the lungomare; the borgo marinaro behind Corso Umberto I is the compact centre. 6 7
Cashless Friendly
A restaurant coperto is common, a tip is not required, and leaving the change is the usual gesture. Prices on the shelf include VAT. Keep cash for the Saturday market and smaller shops. 3 6
Short Term Rentals
The seafront and the borgo marinaro are the usual short-stay base. The town is a summer beach resort, and the tourism office notes that shops keep a low-season trade as well. 6 8
Best Area to Stay for Tourists
Porto, on the lungomare and in the borgo marinaro around Corso Umberto I and Piazza XX Settembre. The beach, the station and the town hall are there. Civitanova Alta is the sightseeing hill, not the beach base. 6 7
Best Area to Stay for Digital Nomads
The port centre, near the station and the Zavatti library on Viale Vittorio Veneto, so the beach and the reading room are a walk. Civitainnova and Navitas sit inland toward the SS77 exit, a short ride rather than a seafront desk. 11 12 20 7

Working and Networking

Best Coworking Space
Civitainnova, Via Ugo Bassi 1/B, near the superstrada exit: an open-space desk is 160 euro a month, and a meeting room is 15 euro an hour. The cost file uses that 160 euro month. Navitas, Via Enzo Ferrari 9, publishes a day desk at 15 euro, an easy desk at 135 euro a month and a dedicated desk at 185 euro a month. Go Working, Via Silvio Pellico 4, lists an open desk at 170 euro a month. 11 12 13
Networking Events
Go Working, Via Silvio Pellico 4, holds coworker meetups where people present their own work. It also offers business services (legal, accounting, export) through partner firms. 13

Transportation

Bike/Scooter Rental
Freeride, Lungomare Sergio Piermanni 29, hires e-bikes. The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:30 to 20:00, Monday 16:30 to 20:00, and closed Sunday. The page does not publish a day rate. No shared-scooter price list was found in town. 27
Best Beach Nearby
The beach is in town. North of the port the sand is fine and the water stays shallow; south of the port the beach is white pebbles, with a free stretch used by kitesurfers. Tuttitalia records a 2026 Blue Flag for Lungomare Nord and Lungomare Sud. 6 8 2
Top Regional Airline
DAT flies Ancona Falconara (AOI), about 50 km north, to Rome and Milan Linate. Ryanair also flies Catania, and Volotea flies Catania plus seasonal Olbia and Palermo from 6 November 2026. The airport list was updated on 4 August 2026. 10 7
Top International Airline
Ryanair from Ancona Falconara to London Stansted, Brussels Charleroi, and seasonal Krakow and Dusseldorf. Volotea flies Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. Air Dolomiti flies Munich. Wizz Air flies Tirana. The airport is about 50 km from Civitanova. 10 7
Highway Access
Autostrada A14 Bologna-Taranto, exit Civitanova Marche-Macerata, then the SS 485 into town. The SS77 Val di Chienti dual carriageway runs inland to Foligno. 7
Main Train/Transit Hub
Stazione di Civitanova Marche-Montegranaro, in the centre of Porto. The tourism office says the seafront and the centre are a walk or a local bus from the platforms. OpenStreetMap places the station on Via Alessandro Volta. 7 17 6
Public Transport Passes
ATAC runs the urban buses. Wikivoyage points to atac-civitanova.it for timetables, but marks that site dead since November 2025, and it did not load here either. The Marche urban tariff notice used by the cost file sets a monthly pass at 30 euro and a single ticket at 1.35 euro (regional decision 1,036 of 8 August 2022). A local report put the ATAC annual list price at 225 euro before a regional discount. 9 14 6
Regional Travel
Trenitalia from Civitanova Marche-Montegranaro on the Adriatic line, north to Ancona and south toward Pescara. The SS77 runs inland to Macerata and on toward the Sibillini. Contram, Start and Steat run regional buses. 6 7

Health and Wellness

Ospedale di Civitanova Marche, Via Pietro Ginevri 1. OpenStreetMap lists the hospital on that street. For an emergency call 112. Calls to 113, 115 and 118 are forwarded to 112. 15 16 43
Yoga & Wellness Centers

Business

Studio Purchase Price (City Center)
Ordinary homes in OMI zone B2, the historic port centre (Viale Vittorio Veneto, Corso Garibaldi, Mazzini), are quoted at 1,400 to 4,500 euro per square metre. The middle of that band is about 2,950 euro per square metre, so a 40 square metre flat is about 118,000 euro. The observatory does not split studios from larger homes. 44
Studio Purchase Price (Outside City)
Ordinary homes in OMI zone D1, the inland belt of Zona Mostre, Quartiere Molino and the Aurora mall, are quoted at 1,050 to 1,600 euro per square metre. The middle is about 1,325 euro per square metre, so a 40 square metre flat is about 53,000 euro. 45
1-Bedroom Purchase Price (City Center)
Same OMI zone B2 band as the studio line, 1,400 to 4,500 euro per square metre, because the quotes are not split by flat size. At the middle, about 2,950 euro per square metre, a 60 square metre flat is about 177,000 euro. 44
1-Bedroom Purchase Price (Outside City)
Same OMI zone D1 band, 1,050 to 1,600 euro per square metre. At the middle, about 1,325 euro per square metre, a 60 square metre flat is about 79,500 euro. 45
2-Bedroom Purchase Price (City Center)
Same OMI zone B2 band, 1,400 to 4,500 euro per square metre. At the middle, about 2,950 euro per square metre, an 80 square metre flat is about 236,000 euro. 44
2-Bedroom Purchase Price (Outside City)
Same OMI zone D1 band, 1,050 to 1,600 euro per square metre. At the middle, about 1,325 euro per square metre, an 80 square metre flat is about 106,000 euro. 45
Corporate Tax
IRES is 24 percent and ordinary IRAP is 3.9 percent. Regions can move IRAP slightly. For 2025 only, IRES can fall from 24 percent to 20 percent for companies that reinvest profits. 34
Dividend Withholding Tax
26 percent on dividends paid to resident individuals. Non-residents face 26 percent unless a treaty or the EU parent-subsidiary rule cuts it. 35
Tax System
Residents are taxed on worldwide income. Non-residents are taxed only on Italian-source income. Residence is more than 183 days in the tax year, counting fractions of a day, or civil registration, domicile, or habitual presence for most of the year. 39 33
Highest Income Tax Bracket
43 percent national IRPEF on income above 50,000 euro in 2026. The bands under that are 23 percent up to 28,000 euro and 33 percent from 28,001 to 50,000 euro. Regional tax of about 0.7 to 3.33 percent and municipal tax up to 0.9 percent (Italy tax profile) sit on top. The Italy tax profile records an effective top near 47.23 percent. 33
VAT
22 percent standard IVA. Wikivoyage says 10 percent in restaurants and hotels, and 4 percent on some goods such as books. Prices on the shelf include it. 36 3
Controlled Foreign Company (CFC) Rules
Yes. PwC says that from 2024 the test is an effective tax rate under 15 percent, plus more than one third of revenue from passive income. If the foreign accounts are not certified, the older test still applies, a foreign effective tax under half the Italian IRES. The Italy tax profile still describes that older half-rate test. 37
Property Tax
IMU. An ordinary main home is exempt. Luxury main homes in categories A/1, A/8 and A/9 are 0.60 percent. Other buildings, including second homes, are 1.06 percent. Fyscal attributes the 2026 rates to council resolution 61 of 22 December 2025, published by the finance ministry on 6 October 2026. 31
Property Transaction Tax
With first-home relief, from a private seller or a company selling exempt from VAT, registration tax is 2 percent instead of 9 percent, with a minimum of 1,000 euro, plus 50 euro mortgage tax and 50 euro cadastral tax. The cadastral base is optional. From a company charging VAT, first-home VAT is 4 percent and the fixed taxes are 200 euro each. 32
Attractive Tax System for Digital Nomads
Not a low-tax base. Residents are taxed on worldwide income after more than 183 days. From 2024 the inbound-worker regime excludes 50 percent of qualifying Italian employment or self-employment income, up to 600,000 euro a year. With a minor child the taxed share falls to 40 percent. The 7 percent pension flat tax is only for towns under 20,000 people in Sicily, Calabria, Sardinia, Campania, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Molise or Puglia, so it does not cover Civitanova. A 2026 arrival can instead pay 300,000 euro a year on foreign income. Non-EU remote workers have a national digital nomad visa. Schengen short stays are 90 days in any 180. 38 40 41 42

Change history

  1. Added

fix pass after the independent check. Reopened the town, operator and price pages and corrected five lines: the relics sentence on Religious Sites, the phone attribution on Wine Bars, the missing town-guide citation for the June feast on Annual Events, the dead bus timetable site on Public Transport Passes, and the named country tax source for the surcharge range on Highest Income Tax Bracket. Researcher and verification date moved to this pass.
