Spouses and registered civil partners of German citizens are eligible for naturalization after three years of lawful habitual residence in Germany and at least two years of marriage or registered partnership, subject to the general requirements in § 10(1) StAG. The route permits retention of other citizenships under the 2024 reform.
The naturalization fee is EUR 255 per person; a minor child included with a parent may pay EUR 51 under the statutory conditions. The Einbürgerungstest costs EUR 25. The § 9 residence and relationship periods remain three years and two years respectively; applicants must satisfy applicable § 10 requirements. Since June 27, 2024, German law generally permits multiple citizenships, so renunciation of the previous nationality is not a German-law requirement.
