Applications opened December 20, 2025 following changes to Bulgaria's Law on Foreigners. Two-step process: first apply for Type D long-stay visa at embassy, then apply for residence permit within 14 days of arrival. Income: 50x Bulgarian monthly minimum wage (EUR 620 in 2026 = EUR 31,000/year). Three eligible categories: employees of foreign companies, shareholders in foreign companies (min 1 year), freelancers providing digital services to foreign clients (min 1 year). Bulgaria adopted the euro and joined Schengen in 2025. Flat 10% personal income tax if tax resident.
