Notes

The applicant must have no dependent children. A partner can be included, and income and funds can be combined with that partner. There is no published age or English test for the visa. Funds cannot be borrowed. After approval in principle there are 12 months to transfer and invest, and that deadline is not extended. Acceptable investments are bonds, equities, or a new residential development, held for 4 years. Travel is allowed for the first 2 years. A variation of conditions can cover the last 2 years if the early conditions are met. A Permanent Resident Visa follows 4 years of investment. The published cost is from NZD 12,850, about USD 7,222. Eighty percent of approvals in principle are decided within 11 months. This is not the Parent Resident Visa, which uses an expression-of-interest pool and a sponsor income test.
