Notes

Holders of a passport that is exempt from a Colombian short-stay visa may enter without a visa and work remotely for a foreign payer. Resolución 5477 de 2022, article 46, says digital nomads, remote workers and digital entrepreneurs in that position receive an entry permit from Migración Colombia, as long as the stay does not generate payments from Colombian companies. The permit is up to 90 days and may be extended to no more than 180 days, continuous or not, in the same calendar year. The 90 and 180 days are stored as 3 and 6 months. The cap is per calendar year, not a lifetime cap. There is no statutory income, savings, degree or insurance test on this route. The initial permit is issued at the border and is not on the 2026 paid tariff list. Extending it is the Permiso Temporal de Permanencia: COP 150,000 for the general public in 2026, about USD 47 at the 9 October 2026 rate of COP 3,218.75 per USD. The extension fee is COP 0 for European Union nationals and for Ecuadorians. There is no beneficiary visa. A family member needs their own exempt passport and their own permit. This stay is not the two-year tipo V visa and does not count toward a resident visa. More than 183 days inside any 365-day period still creates Colombian tax residence on worldwide income. One calendar year of this permit stops at 180 days, which is short of that test; days from two calendar years can be added together.
